Alone on the Hill 2023
A high quality giclée limited edition of the original willow charcoal drawing
‘Alone on the Hill’ is an emotional charcoal drawing I did in 2023. The artwork, deeply personal, resonates with the theme of solitude as our family were simultaneously navigating the challenges of supporting our eldest son, who suffers from a mental illness. This poignant context adds a layer of significance to the piece, making it profoundly relevant.
I saw the tree on a walk on the South Downs in West Sussex and took some reference pictures. The sky is from a trip to Sicily and felt right to represent the difficulties for our wonderful Son and the turmoil he was going through, the hill I made up, but wanted the gentle light under the tree to show how beautiful it is inside too. I cried drawing this.
I hope the viewers are encouraged to find their own meaning and connection within the tranquil yet powerful scene.
