Draining the Levels 2023
‘Draining the Levels’ was drawn in 2023 and is local to where I live, near the Somerset levels in the south west of the U.K. Drawn with black willow charcoal on cartridge paper, it depicts one of the many ‘ditches or drains’ on the levels that take the water away from the farming land that frequently floods. I really enjoyed doing this piece, the mist sitting on the damp soil, the moody insistent sky that I emphasised to challenge the smooth ground and the subtle reflections tying it all together.
The original artwork is still available, the image size is 61.5cm x 46cm and framed, in an upcycled solid wood frame from a charity shop, measures 85cm x 65.5cm.
