Seatoller Mist and Sedge Grass II
Seatoller Mist and Sedge Grass 2 is an exquisite piece of art, meticulously created by Bob during a rainy day in the Lake District. This artwork is a testament to Bob’s ability to capture the essence of a wet, rural landscape using only vine charcoal. The piece was inspired by the view Bob had while sheltering from the battering rain in his motorhome.
Seatoller, located in the Lake District, is the starting point of Bob’s family’s favourite route up Scarfell, the tallest mountain in England. The scene in the artwork includes glimpses of the majestic mountains in the background. However, the true star of this piece is the sedge grass that dominates the wetter areas of the Lake District. Bob has successfully highlighted the beauty of this common yet captivating element of the landscape.
Bob’s process for creating Seatoller Mist and Sedge Grass 2 involved several sketches made in his sketchbook before he completed the final piece on his easel. The artwork is unique in that it uses only vine charcoal, which lends a delicate and raw quality to the image. Bob has intentionally left some edge marks visible, allowing viewers to appreciate the raw lines and the meticulous effort that went into creating this piece.
