Soft Day
Soft Day was a challenge I set myself after a previous sharp charcoal drawing, wanting to capture a softer environment. It is based on a scene we came across while walking Offa’s Dyke path, where a group of Monkey puzzle trees had been planted in a cluster. It was a misty day and they loomed up out of the white. I changed them to fir trees to soften the piece even more. I had planned to put my wife into the picture just to the left on the path, I tried it and then took her out again as it didn’t work.
Willow charcoal on cartridge paper, size of the image is 57cm x 38.5cm and framed, in an upcycled solid wood frame, measures 94.5cm x 70.5 cm
